For Immediate Release: San Francisco, CA - March 11, 2008- FRX is proud to announce Live Sockets Entertainment as a new sponsor for the 2008 season. As part of our ongoing promotion and desire to further the sport of rallycross, Live Sockets Entertainment will be supplying FRX events with DVD's as prizes for top finishers. Live Socket DVD's were available and given out as prizes at Glen Helen 1 (Glen Helen, CA) last month and they were a huge success. Typically, winning a rally cross event only comes with bragging rights, but for 2008, every FRX event will (at least!) have Live Socket WRC Rally videos! "We are very excited to be able to promote Live Sockets Entertainment at each of our events throughout California in 2008, and we're just as excited to have WRC DVD's available as prizes for each event as well. This is going to be a great partnership!" - Jon Burke, FRX Director of Business Development and Public Relations. FRX's next RallyX event will be at Prairie City OHV, Rancho Cordova, on March 22nd and 23rd. About FRX: www.formularallyx.com Formula RallyX (FRX) is a nonprofit California corporation that organizes and promotes events that cultivate the growth of RallyX, a form of motorsport also known as dirt trial or rally cross. FRX stages events of its own and provides support and organization to local event organizers when requested. FRX makes available organizational assistance, insurance (via a third party), equipment, promotions and personnel. During events, FRX harbors a fun and casual atmosphere that fosters safe and positive competition. Through its activities, FRX aims to increase public interest in the sport - initially in California and Nevada, then in other areas of the country. 02.25.08 GHI Recap By Dave Haws. It was 7:00 am and the ground was still soaking from the previous 48 hours of rain. It was so slick that some cars had a hard time getting to the staging area. When you finally did make it there, you had to step out into the dreaded mud. When I saw all of this, I knew it was going to be a glorious day for RallyX racing. We started off running the SS2 and SS4 classes. As we were parading around the course, I knew the poor SS2 guys had no chance. When we started racing, the times around the course reflected the conditions. It was slow and sloppy. Guy Sappington showed his years of RallyX experience to take 1st place in his rented Chevy Aveo. He was followed up by John Harris for 2nd and David Clark for 3rd. Next up was SS4. The conditions were getting a little better, but not by much. Dave Haws of 505 Motorsports dominated his class in a 2.5RS and took 1st place by 88.51 seconds. It was the largest margin of victory of the day. Dusty Wall finished 2nd in his WRX bug eye wagon and Pete Landry rounded it out with 3rd in his Saabaru wagon. SM2 had one of the most interesting battles of the day. In one corner you had Robert Miller representing Flat Rabbit Racing in his 88' Turbo Civic with well over 200 HP. In the other corner you had Burney Storms in his Geo Metro with well less than 100 HP!! Going into the last run, Burney held a 4.65 second advantage over the turbo Civic. With only half a lap to go, Burney unexpectedly pulls off the course and heads to the pits, resulting in an Off Course. This sealed the win for Robert. Amazingly, Burney still ended up in 2nd place. Bill Martin finished 3rd in his 92' Nissan Sentra SE-R. This brought us to SM4. Last year SM4 was the red headed stepchild, but this year it is the biggest and most popular class. We had 15 entries in this class alone. This was also the fastest class of the day. Louie Minette driving his "Monster" 2.5RS edged out Tom Crane in his WRX by 1.59 seconds with an overall fast time of the day of 408.59. Not to be left out of the party was Peter LeClaire in his 93' Legacy with 3rd place. Not too shabby for a first timer with less than 100 HP at the wheel!! Trent Koury gets the honorable mention with the single fastest lap of the day; he ran an astounding 98.16 in his 2.5RS. Rally 2 was the smallest class of the day with only four entries. Jack Szanto was coming off a win at Ridgecrest and was looking to follow it up with a strong performance. It was not his day though as Kevin Patterson and Jake Walters took 1st and 2nd respectively in a shared Dodge Neon. Too many cones foiled Jack and he ended up in 3rd place with his DCH Motorsports SRT- 4. Just when you thought the conditions were perfect for a showdown in Rally 4, the skies opened back up and it started to rain. Never fear, though, as the showdown came down to the wire. Mike Malsed driving the 505 Motorsports "Monster" 2.5RS squeaked by Walter Park with a .17 second advantage. Sometimes it's amazing to think that it can come down to such a small margin of victory. With his trip from the Bay Area all for naught, Brian Francis finished 3rd in his STI. Overall it was another great day at Glen Helen. The conditions were sloppy at first, but got better as the day wore on. 505 Motorsports could not have asked for a better day. Dave Haws in the "Tsardine" dominated SS4; Louie Minette got his first win of the year in SM4 and the "Monster" 2.5RS in the hands of Mike Malsed ran strong and true for a win in Rally 4. Flat Rabbit Racing is also looking good as Robert Miller continued his fast driving by getting his second win in SM2. The next race for the 2008 SoCal RallyX season is at Johnson Valley on April 5th, followed by Glen Helen II on April 20th. We hope to see you there. 02.01.08 Provisional 2008 Schedule for NorCal and SoCal We're looking forward to another great year of RallyX, and would like to announce the provisional schedules for both the NorCal and SoCal regions! Please keep in mind that dates are subject to change, and that we're planning on adding more events soon as the season progresses. Please also note that points structure and class rules have changed in order to provide the rallycross community with a more satisfying competitive experience. Thank you! 01.09.08 2008 Season FRX is proud to announce the kick off of the 2008 RallyX season! This is our third year in a row and due to unexpected growth in 2007, the FRX Board of Directors had to re-evaluate its championship series, determine how it will best help new regions, and be sure that all logistics and operations will continue to run smooth for core events as well as events run by independent organizers. With FRX rapidly expanding beyond California, we need to make it as easy as possible for new regions to join and prosper. The FRX board decided that for any given region to hold an ‘FRX Series’ only two venues and four events are required. Anyone interested in starting an FRX chapter in their local area are encouraged to contact any FRX board member for help getting started, logistics, venues, etc. FRX is proud to announce its most recent addition, FRX Utah. More information will follow on events in that area. The 2008 FRX Championship Series has been spit into Northern and Southern California regions. As a result of growing attendance at all of our events this past year, and demand for a points series that does not require extensive travel, each region will have its own points series. As individual organizers continue to work on the official schedule, venues will consist of past locations as well as new venues as well. NorCal: Vallejo, Antioch, Prairie City, Thunderhill. SoCal: GlennHelen, Johnson Valley, Laughlin (tbd) FRX points system has been changed to: 10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2 (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) FRX drops is a set ratio (25%) that will be dependent on the actual number of events held at the end of the year, in the case of any canceled (or added) events. (i.e. so 4 events and only 1 drop, 8 events and 2 drops, etc). We are always looking for new events, and would like to help anyone interested in starting a new venue in other areas. No travel events will be include in this year’s FRX points series, however we are planning on having a Championship FRX event at the end of the season. The venue and date is currently being worked out, but will be announced ASAP. FRX is also happy to formally announce that Lucy Ryan has been named ‘Secretary to the Board.’ Lucy has been with FRX since the beginning and is always helping run logistics behind the scenes. Her formal duties include a multitude of tasks required for FRX to run smoothly, and we greatly appreciate her efforts. With the first FRX event just around the corner, we at FRX are excited for the 2008 season and wish all competitors good luck! 01.09.08 FRX CREW! FRX is proud to announce the creation of the ‘FRX Crew.’ While a specific individual/organizer runs and ‘owns’ each event, we recognize that no event would happen without volunteers. What we are looking for are motivated individuals who are willing to work directly with the event organizer and help manage the specific volunteer functions. These functions include, but are not limited to: Timing, Starting Grid, Course workers, Setup/Breakdown, Course master (design, grading, watering) This is also a great way to learn for anyone interested in running his or her own event! Certain positions may include a reduced entry fee for Volunteer Board members for specific events; this will be determined and announced by the event organizers. This is open to all competitors and spectators. For anyone interested in helping to mange volunteer functions for either a specific event, or for the season, please contact FRX directly. FRX will announce a ‘RallyX Volunteer of the Year’ award at the end of the racing season. 11.15.07 Thank You for a Great Season It has been a wonderful inaugural year for Formula RallyX and Laughlin was the perfect cap off. The final event of the year saw dramatic changes to the standings with heated competition throughout the 2 days. The new and exciting dueling format had 2 cars running against each other at the drop of the green flag. After 11 events in 2007, FRX will take a short winter break and return for an even more exciting new season with multi-regional competition and a revamped points system. Please check back often for next year's schedule. If you have videos and photos to share, please post to the forums or email us. The media section will be updated soon. 07.18.07 FRX Vallejo RallyX Invitational 7.28 Cancelled
It is with deepest regret and disappointment that FRX must announce the cancellation of the FRX Vallejo Invitational.
05.14.2007: FRX Vallejo RallyX Invitational 7.28
FRX Vallejo RallyX will become a non-points invitational demo event, run in conjunction with the Motoring J Style Japanese Car Festival (www.motoringjstyle.com). The event is expected to draw 1- to 2 thousand people and will give sponsors, RallyX, and competitors great exposure.
04.04.2007: Formula RallyX Announces 2007 Points System For 2007 the Formula RallyX Series will follow the points system used by the World Rally Championship! Points will be awarded to the top eight finishers in each class on a system of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Racing should be kept tight and season-long battles are expected to be the norm. A few tweaks are in place though to emphasize the amateur nature of RallyX racing. A racer's three lowest scores can be dropped over the course of the season. These drops can be used for any event but one drop cannot be used for a NorCal event. In addition, the FRX championship finale in Laughlin, NV on 11/10&11 will be the "big one". It will be scored with both days added up for double FRX points. Two days, two courses, and 10 or more runs will settle the final FRX points standings. 02.12.2007: Glen Helen I Results Are In! Results PDF. Congratulations to the class winners! Thanks to everyone who came out to the first event of the season and an extra thank you to the folks who volunteered and helped out. See you at the next event. 01.06.2007: 2007 FRX Provisional Schedule Released For 2007, FRX plans to run 9 championship points events.
